***CANCELLED***Bike Decorating Parade

June 5 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Bring the whole family for some old fashioned fun!  Elementary aged kids can decorate their bikes and scooters inside the Laurel Armory and then join in the parade on Montgomery Street. Presented by the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Laurel Police Department. Decorations will be provided and an ice cream social follows the parade. Helmets must be worn.

Laurel Trivia Night

The Laurel History Boys will host another lively and fun trivia contest all about Laurel’s history. Some sample questions from previous trivia nights: What local planned city—other than Greenbelt—came before Columbia and Reston? Name the actor who played the resident leprechaun at Delaney’s. At what Laurel bar/nightclub did Jimmy Dean frequently play in the 1950s and 1960s? What famous government official had his father committed to the Laurel Sanitarium? Prizes will be awarded!

Laurel Independence Day Celebration

The Laurel Independence Day Celebration started over 40 years ago with a question from a little girl to then Mayor Robert DiPietro….why didn’t Laurel have fireworks? Since then, Laurel’s Independence Day Celebration has grown into a joyous, daylong event starting with an old-fashioned community parade, and include ing a car show, vendors, and vibrant music.  The celebration climaxes after sunset with spectacular FIREWORKS over Laurel Lakes. National Night Out

Police officers and the public come together for this yearly family-friendly event held by police agencies throughout the country.  Created to promote community policing, awareness about the Police Officers and safety programs, the event will include ERT (Emergency Response Team) Demonstrations, K-9 teams in action, games for the kids, and food.

Back 2 School Summer Jam

Emancipation Day Celebration

Help us celebrate our Emancipation Day Celebration, one of the oldest in the Nation!  For More than 100 years the Grove community has been home to the community's Emancipation Day celebration, which commemorates the freeing of the slaves in the 1860s Start with the Annual Diabetes 5K Fun Run/Walk starting at 8am!  Parade starts at Noon, followed by music, food and fun at Emancipation Park! Installation of 2020 Time Capsule and 1995 time capsule exhibit

We’re ready to install the new time capsule.  Join us for the Installation of the 2020 Time Capsule, which will be opened in 2045 – Laurel’s 175 Anniversary. Look back with us and find out what we buried for the 125th at an exhibit of the 1995 time capsule contents, which were dug up in March.

Holiday Harvest Food Drive

Help a neighbor in need this holiday season. Donate a bag of holiday food items and/or a $25 gift card to a local grocery or department store. LARS will provide holiday meal baskets to over 250 Laurel families and seniors in need this holiday season. Helpful items include canned vegetables, canned yams, cranberry sauce, cornbread mix, fresh or canned fruit, gravy, frozen ham/turkey/chicken, instant potatoes, nuts, pie filling/crust, rice, and stuffing. Holiday Festival & Armory Illumination

December 5 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Kick off the holiday season with our annual Holiday Parade, Holiday festival and Armory Illumination! Santa and Friends will be in our Winter Wonderland for pictures and visits! Show your spirit and join our holiday parade as a spectator or participant. Parade applications are available at our local community centers and Municipal Center. The Holiday Parade steps off at 3:30PM from the Municipal Center, our Holiday Festival begins approx. 4PM at the Armory and the Armory Lighting is approx. 5:30PM!
