In 2020, the City of Laurel will mark the 150-year anniversary (sesquicentennial) of our incorporation. We are planning a very special year-long celebration for the City of Laurel and are asking YOU to be part of it.
Community groups and individual citizens are already planning and coordinating monthly events that will celebrate and commemorate this important milestone. These will include (but certainly not be limited to) a 150th Anniversary Gala, community walks/runs, commemorative materials, exhibits, and special celebrations as well as our traditional Fourth of July events and Main Street Festival, to name just a few. September 26, Celebrate Laurel Today!, our all-day community birthday bash, will celebrate the diversity, thriving neighborhoods, innovative businesses and community spirit of today’s Laurel. Although the City of Laurel has budgeted some money for the 150th anniversary celebration, we must raise significant funds to ensure that activities such as the “Celebrate Laurel Today” event are successful. That’s where you come in, and why we need your support.
We have enclosed information on the specific ways you can support the 150th Anniversary Celebration. As you plan your 2020 community involvement, we hope you will choose to be a major part of our 150th Anniversary.
